What is PAD file?

PAD (Portatable Application Description) helps authors provide product descriptions and specifications to online sources in a standard way, using a standard data format that will allow webmasters and program librarians to automate program listings by using simple XML schame and it helps to save time for both authors and webmasters.

PAD depence on the specification field, and each field has regular expression (regex). The regex acts as a constraint on the field: if the regex matches the field value is legal and if it fails to match the field and the PAD file as a whole are out of spece. Only files where all fields in the file pass validation are properly called PAD files.

Another great things is that they are easy to create and that it doesn't cost you anything. The Assoication of Shareware Professionals have put together a range of totally free tools that allow you to create and modify your PAD files.

PAD uses a simplified XML syntax that does not use name/value pairs in tags. All tags are attribute-free. The official PAD specification uses unique tags.

When you create your PAD files you should put it seprately. First one in ZIP to allow for people who distrbute your software access all information they need. Second, because you need to upload your PAD fiels in your website because many download sites will ask you for.
